Very good advice. Learning to improvise from splodges is a great confidence booster. Not sure I’m ready to put these into an actual sketch but let’s see. And shopping round brushes also excellent advice
I'm currently unable to use my dominant hand (right) and I'm going to use this exercise with my left hand. I think it will be good practice and training for that hand.
thank you for this "doodling next level" ! being a sculptor I used to create small forms of people, animals and other things in plasticine (not sure if every one knows that soft colored kneadable material).
Since I discovered water color and gouache a while ago, I definitely will try this tip :)
Beautiful, and very on-theme for me today. I've been thinking about limiting my usage of brushes so that I can reacquaint myself with my tools. I have collected dozens of brushes, most that I actually never use, and I thought it might be a fun challenge to blindly pick out 3 and use them exclusively in whatever I make for the next week. And then rinse and repeat until I can say for sure which brushes I need and which I don't. : ) This people painting would be a lovely exercise for learning what they can do! I'll have to give it a go! Thank you for sharing!
I’ve seen figures like this in the distance on landscapes and always wondered about them, thanks for the exercise!
glad you find it useful
Wow! This is exactly the kind if thing to do on those days when you don’t know what to paint!
Yes! I have a lot of those days...
